#1 Slugs and snails don’t like some coins
If you’re a gardener and you’re sick of these slimy creatures eating your fruits and vegetables, then it’s time to look for coins. Snails and slugs really dislike pennies. What repels them is the copper that pennies contain.
You can’t just use any penny though. You have to look for pennies that were made prior to 1983. Modern pennies are made mostly of zinc.
#2 There are 4 active mints in the US today
They are located in Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point. The first national mint in the US was established in 1792 in Philadelphia.
#3 Money doesn’t grow on trees
You’ve probably heard of this from your parents but that's actually more than just a funny saying. Bills are really not made of paper which is made from trees. They are made of 75% cotton and 25% linen.
#4 Money used to be made of paper
To financially support the American Civil War, the federal government issued paper money. The Revolutionary War was paid with paper money which the Continental Congress printed out. Bills printed by state-chartered banks were known as greenbacks. The backsides of these bills were painted green as an anti-counterfeiting measure.
#5 Dollars are green for a reason, and not only because it's a lucky color
The green ink makes the US dollar more durable. This color isn’t susceptible to fading and flaking.
