Saudi Arabia is a country where women have extremely limited rights. You will be surprised to find about the things that are still prohibited for female citizens of this country.
#1 In June, 2018, Saudi Arabia has issued the first driver's license to a women
Until this point, Saudi Arabia was the only country in the world to still prohibit women from driving.
#2 A woman can't leave home without an accompanying man
A woman from Saudi Arabia can't do anything without her husband's approval. A man should give his wife a permission to get a job, visit a doctor, enter a university, get a driver's license... and even to leave the house. Moreover, women can't go outside without a Mahram, the male person who will accompany her. It can be her husband or a close relative.
#3 Women are discouraged from using public transportation
Females are allowed to go by bus or by train only if it has a special back section reserved for women. That's why they have to walk a lot or hire a personal driver. Anyway, since recently, women in Saudi Arabia can drive their own cars, but also in the company of Mahram.
#4 Saudi women can only wear two pieces of clothing
These are an abaya, a long black dress covering the whole body except the hands, feet and hand, and a hijab, a covering for the head. In some regions of the country, women are only allowed to wear niqāb, a garment which covers the whole face except for the eyes.
#5 Only 16% of women have a job
Saudi women can enter a university and even study abroad (which is quite hard), but, even after graduation, they don't work too much. Most working women are doctors, nurses, and teachers. It's highly unprofitable for an employer to hire a woman: female workers should have a separate entrance, toilets and work-rooms.
